The Mahoning Valley Railroad Heritage Association, a 501(c)3 organization, was formed in 1985 to preserve the railroading history and heritage of the Mahoning Valley in Ohio, which includes the Youngstown/Warren metropolitan area. Since the steel industry was a major industry in the area, steel industry railroading is a major focus of our association, with the result that we have the largest collection of steel industry rail equipment in the United States.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Mahoning Valley Railroad Heritage Association is to obtain, restore, and display equipment of the railroads that serve or served the Mahoning Valley, with a special emphasis on the unique equipment used in the steel industry, which is our heritage.
Vision Statement
The Mahoning Valley Railroad Heritage Association vision is to offer a welcoming railroad experience for families and visitors of all ages through enriching, entertaining, and educational activities, programs and exhibits at the Steel Valley Railroad Museum. The Museum will provide a positive environment that cultivates knowledge of our industrial heritage and offers a repository of information for future generations to draw upon. The Museum will be a place where older generations can capture the nostalgia of days gone by, and younger generations can be encouraged to meet the challenges of the future.
Collection Scope
The purpose of the Mahoning Valley Railroad Heritage Association is to gather, preserve, collect and display equipment and objects of historic importance to the Mahoning Valley Railroads. This will include the collection and preservation of railroad cars, engines, cabooses, steel industry related rail equipment, pamphlets, photographs, manuscripts, letters, journals, books, records, and other articles which describe and illustrate our railroad and steelmaking heritage.

Read Here First!!!
In 1988 LTV Steel donated two hot metal cars and one slag ladle car to form the basis of the Association's collection. Over time additional rolling stock and railroad memorbilia have been acquired. Our ultimate goal is to obtain a permanent home to display our equipment.
Your membership in the Mahoning Valley Railroad Heritage Association will help us meet our goals.
